Some of our work

1925 Steinway Duo-Art XR

This Piano had been in non-working condition for many years. We performed a total rebuild from the inside out. The finish was shellac and was oxidized terribly. We refinished it using shellac, which kept the original stain, and the factory base coat of shellac. This was a special request of the customer, to keep as much originality as possible while making it still appear beautiful. The fallboard decal was replaced with an exact replica. The piano was taken completely apart. We stripped the soundboard and bridges, put in new bridge pins, and sprayed the soundboard with high quality clear lacquer. The plate was sanded down and sprayed with metallic flake matching original. We did the lettering in black, by hand, as factory would have. We replaced the pin block because the original was in very bad shape, including cracks and shims from a past repair. We replaced the hammers and did work on the action to make it work properly again. We replaced the missing ivories, and cleaned and polished the entire set. The player system was removed, catalogued and rebuilt piece by piece. This was reinstalled and works beautifully.
